Medicaid is a federal health care program for the poor administered by the states. There are certain essential ingredients which each state must include in its local Medicaid program. There are other optional components from which any state may choose to adopt. Accordingly there are variations in the Medicaid programs run by different states but there are mandatory federal law stipulations in this regard.
Medicaid facilities include long term nursing home care for the physically challenged or the mentally disabled, which can be a very expensive proposition.
Medicaid is a welfare program to which only the poor with assets within the ceiling are eligible. In order to be eligible, while a single applicant must not have countable assets over $ 2000, a married applicant must not hold the same over $ 3000.
