Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA)
Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) was established in 1990. TEMA is the official body representing telecom equipment manufacturers, both in the public and private sector. It has a membership of more than 90 per cent of telecom equipment manufacturers as well as components and cables manufacturers in addition to cellular and paging service operators and a large number of public and private sector units and multinational companies. TEMA has affiliation to leading international telecom industry associations. TEMA advises the Indian Government in decisions relating to Indian telecom industry. It also plays an important role in proposing the names of technical experts from the Industry to various telecom committees of the Government, and industry associations, namely, CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, PHD.
TEMA was set up to effect dissemination and exchange of information from the Government, foreign agencies, embassies, trade missions, Indian missions abroad and leading international trade associations. TEMA aims to work for a favorable environment so that the market expands, manufacturing takes place in India and technical competence in the country rises and create a body of standards which is delinked from DOT so that the standards for the Indian telecom network, instead of standards for the Department of Telecom, are established.
