International Telecommunication Satellite Organization (ITSO)
International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) is an intergovernmental organization with the mission to ensure that Intelsat, Ltd. provides public telecommunications services, including voice, data and video, on a global and non-discriminatory basis. ITSO currently has 148 member countries. Assembly of Parties is the governing body of the Organization. India is one of the members of ITSO.
Following are the general objectives of International Telecommunications Satellite Organization:
To act as the supervisory authority of Intelsat, Ltd.;
To ensure the performance of Core Principles for the provision of international public telecommunications services, with high reliability and quality; and
To promote international public telecommunications services to meet the needs of the information and communication society.
To ensure the provision of high-quality and reliable international public telecommunications services, the ITSO has considered the following long-term goals and objectives for the Organization:
Maintain the continuity of the provision of international public telecommunications services.
Contribute to the promotion of a global information and communications infrastructure.
Improve affordability of satellite services through the promotions of open standards.
Serve as an information resource for gathering and disseminating data about national market and policy environments.
India derives the services of INSAT system for telecommunication, television broadcasting, meteorology and disaster management from ITSO.
