Asia Pacific Satellite Communication Council (APSCC)
The Asia Pacific Satellite Communication Council was established in 1994 by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UN-OOSA). APSCC plays a key role in expanding the impact of information technology and in promoting digital opportunities through greater use of satellite technologies. APSCC activities have been expanded to cover additional facets of the space industry including space application services such as GPS, GIS, remote sensing and its related businesses, as they are of vital importance in the Asia-Pacific.
The aim of APSCC is to promote communications and broadcasting via satellite as well as outer space activities in the Asia-Pacific for the socio-economic and cultural welfare of the region. APSCC coordinates with its members to exchange views on satellite-related policies, technologies, systems, and services in the region. Its members include satellite manufacturers, launch service providers, satellite service providers and satellite risk management companies, telecom carriers, and broadcasters from Asia, Europe and North America. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and the Indian Space Research Organisation are the regular members of APSCC.
