The Workmen’s Compensation Act 1923 has been enacted with the objective of providing compensation to the injured workman in case of an employment injury and to his dependants, in case of his death. Under the provisions of this Act, an employer shall be liable to pay compensation to a workman in case a personal injury is caused by an accident arising out of and in the course of his employment. An injured person or his dependants have to give a notice to the employer to pay compensation. Violation of certain provisions of the Act shall be punishable with fine, which may extend to five thousand rupees.
