The Inland Water Ways Authority of India Act, 1985 provides for the constitution of an Authority for the regulation and development of inland waterways for purposes of shipping and navigation and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The Act provides for the constitution and incorporation of the Inland Waterways Authority of India by the central government. The Authority shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal with power, subject to the provisions of this Act, to acquire, hold and dispose of property, both movable and immovable, and to contract and shall by the said name sue and be sued. The Act further provides for the Conditions of service of members of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, powers of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, removal of members, etc. The Authority is empowered to constitute such Advisory Committees, from time to time, as may be necessary for the efficient discharge of its functions.
