The Indian Ports Act, 1908 aims to consolidate the enactments relating to Ports and Port-charges. This Act provides for certain rules for the safety of shipping and conservation of ports. The provisions of this Act empower the Government to alter the limits of any port by uniting with that port any other port or any part of any other port and declare or describe the precise extent of such limits. The Government may, in addition to any rules which it may make under any other enactment for the time being in force, make such rules, consistent with this Act, as it thinks necessary for various other purposes.
