Central Drugs Standard Control Organization

The followings are the duties and functions of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization:-

To lay down standards of drugs, cosmetics, diagnostics and devices
To lay down regulatory measures, amendments to Acts and Rules.
Regulate market authorization of new drugs.
Regulate clinical research in India
To approve licenses to manufacture certain categories of drugs as Central Licence Approving Authority i.e. for Blood Banks etc.
Regulate the standards of imported drugs
Testing of drugs by Central Drugs Labs
To coordinate with the Drugs Technical Advisory Board and Drugs Consultative Committee
Guidance on technical matters
Participation in the WHO GMP certification scheme
Monitoring adverse drug reactions
Conducting training programmes for regulatory officials & Govt. Analysts.
Distribution of quotas of narcotic drugs for use in medicinal formulations.
Screening of drug formulations available in Indian market
Screening of applications for granting ‘No Objection Certificates’ for export of unapproved and banned drugs
Pre- and post- licensing inspection
Recall of sub-standard drugs
