History : The history of pharmaceuticals can be traced back to the medieval times, when people went to the priests to get the ailing cured. Even today, many people go to the temple first before taking the ailing to the doctor. Specialization took place in or around Baghdad in the 9th century. The difference between physician and a pharmacist did not become quite clear till the beginning of the 19th century.
Patent and Pharmaceuticals : A patent is the exclusive right given by a state to a person for a specific period of time against a disclosure of an invention. However the procedure, requirements and the extent of exclusive rights vary from one country to another. The patent restricts others from making and / or manufacture of the same product by any other company. A pharmaceutical company generally tries to maintain the secrecy of its technology . They try to invent new brands and also see to it that it is not copied by others. Pharmaceutical patent is an integral part of Intellectual Property Rights.
Pharmaceuticals: The main job of pharmaceuticals is to invent new medicines for a particular disease. After the invention of a new drug, the pharmaceutical company applies for the patent, which is granted to it for a maximum of 20 years during which no other company can exploit the invention. However, they can get informed about the same so that as soon as the patent expires, they can also prepare similar products. As advanced medical care help people to live longer lives, invention of new medicines are also required to keep people healthy.
