The Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India)
The Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990 has been enacted to provide for the establishment of Broadcasting Corporation for India, to be known as Prasar Bharati, to define its composition, functions and powers and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The Act provides that the Broadcasting Corporation of India shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession. Regarding the functions and powers of the corporation, the Act lays down that subject to the provisions of this Act, it shall be the primary duty of the Corporation to organise and conduct public broadcasting services to inform, educate and entertain the public and to ensure a balanced development of broadcasting on radio and television.
