Supreme Court permits quota
The Supreme Court has vacated a Calcutta High Court order staying implementation of 27 % quota for OBCs in post-graduate courses including those offered by the IIMs. A Bench headed by Chief Justice Mr KG Balakrishnan observed, “We cannot allow Calcutta High Court order to operate. Can Calcutta High Court sit over the order of the Supreme Court? Where is the question of stay when the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006 (OBC quota law) has been upheld?”

Inflation inching towards 8%
Inflation marched to an almost four-year high of 7.83 % for the week ended May 3,
In the previous week, the rate of inflation was 7.61 per cent, while it was 5.74 percent a year ago. The only ray of hope was perhaps prices of cement, iron and steel came down, giving some breathing space to the government. Iron and steel prices declined 1.7 per cent, while cement fell 0.4 per cent.
