When writings are introduced as evidence in witness action, the original writing must be produced as best evidence. However, exact copy of the original has the same weight as the original unless its authenticity is disputed.
In this connection, the expression ‘writing’ also covers films, x- rays and photographs.
The Federal Rules also allow the use of mechanically produced replicas of the original unless a party raises honest disputes over the genuineness of the same.
