Manipur is located in the north-eastern part of India with its Capital at Imphal. It has been a Union Territory from 1956 and full fledged State from 1972. The state has made significant advance in the field of agriculture. More than 70% of the high yielding variety of paddy is locally bred. Handloom is the biggest industry in the state, with over 3 lakh persons employed in the field. The Land area of Manipur is about 22,327 sq. km. with an estimated population of 1.8 million. The Per Capita Income is Rs.5,362 and the Inflation Rate is 6.2%. The state government provides several incentives to attract industry in addition to backward area benefits. Power tariff in the state is one of the lowest in the country. Also, there is reasonably wide coverage.

Mission:
To facilitate rapid and substantial industrial development in the State through enhanced investment, an investor-friendly environment, provision for infrastructure and institutional support, attractive incentive package and optimum utilisation of existing resources in order to gainfully exploit emerging opportunities in the National and International markets and generate substantial income and employment avenues for the people of Manipur. This will be done by providing industry access to high quality infrastructure, extending institutional support for technology upgradation, deregulating the business environment for an efficient, proactive and transparent administrative frame-work and catalysing the entrepreneurial as well as creative capabilities of the human resources.
Objectives

Develop village and small scale service and Business Enterprises (SSSBE) to provide self-employment to educated youths.
Develop and promote Tourism industry in the State.
Revive and rehabilitate sick industrial units in the State.
Develop Food processing industry by facilitating forward and backward linkages.
Expedite formalisation and development of cross border trade with Myanmar.
Provide investor-friendly environment by removing procedural bottlenecks and legal hurdles.
