Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) has for general guidance published ‘Integrated Pollution Control- A Practical Guide’ which
explains authorizations for process, connected applications and consultation procedures
explains the concept and mode of promulgation of BATNEEC through Chief Inspector’s Guidance Notes from time to time
lists prescribed substances or pollutants for treatment
‘Chief Inspector’s Guidance Notes’ (CIGN) issued from time to time on the necessary standards of operation including emission/ release levels are available to the public including the operators or developers of prescribed process for clear understanding of the same.
Further, Technical Guidance Notes for Inspectors are published covering technical matters such as dispersion calculation, chimney height determination, etc.
Though any such published Guidance Note holds good and valid for a fixed or limited period of time, yet the parameters of pollution control for authorization of process is dynamic, which is subject to change in tune with advancing technology.
