In an event where a defendant is charged with an offense, the concerned judicial officer, after due discussion with the counsel representing the defendant and the attorney representing the Government, should, at the earliest, put the case for trial on a pre-fixed day, so as to guarantee a speedy trial.
Any information which charges an individual with the commission of an offense has to be filed within a time limit of thirty days from the date of arrest of the individual or served with a summons in correlation with that specific charge.
In case of a felony charge, with no grand jury, during such thirty-day period, the period of time for filing of the indictment is extended for an supplementary thirty days.
