Juvenile delinquency can be termed as a criminal activity executed by any juvenile. In the US, juvenile delinquency is dealt under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Act of 1975.
According to the US Code, the term 'juvenile' means "a person who has not attained his eighteenth birthday". Similarly, the term 'juvenile delinquency' means "the violation of a law of the United States committed by a person prior to his eighteenth birthday which would have been a crime if committed by an adult".
In an event when a juvenile is taken into custody on charges of juvenile delinquency, the officer concerned must advise such juvenile immediately about his legal rights. Such advice must be in a language which such juvenile can comprehend. Further, such officer must immediately notify the Attorney General and the juvenile's parents or guardian about such arrest and also the nature of the alleged offence.
