Federal Prison Industry is an administrative firm of the District of Columbia. It is administered by a Board of 6 directors. These directors are appointed by the President to who serves at his will though without any reimbursement.
The directors are chosen to represent the followings:
- Industry,
- Labor,
- Agriculture,
- Retailers and consumers,
- The Secretary of Defense, and
- The Attorney General
The function of the Federal Prison Industry is to resolve in what method and to what amount industrial procedures are to be carried on in Federal penal institutions for the manufacture of merchandise for use in such institutions and for sale to the departments or other organizations of the United States. However, it is also ensured that it is not put up for sale to the public in opposition with private venture.
