In an event when two or more persons conspire to commit any crime against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency in any manner and one or more of such persons combine together to commit conspiracy, each of them is liable to be fined or imprisoned for not more than five years, or both.
However, if the offense is a misdemeanor, the punishment shall not exceed the term of maximum punishment provided for such misdemeanor.
If two or more persons make conspiracy to prevent, by force, any person from accepting or holding any office, under the United States, or from performing any duties thereof, or while engaged in the legalized discharge thereof, or to damage his property so as to molest, disrupt, obstruct or impede him in the discharge of his official duties, each of such persons is liable to be fined or imprisoned not more than six years, or both.
