The term Chemical Weapon has been defined in the US Code under Title 18 Chapter 11B. According to the Code, Chemical Weapon means and includes:
- A toxic chemical and its precursors, except where intended for a purpose not prohibited under this chapter as long as the type and quantity is consistent with such a purpose.
- A device, specifically designed to cause death or other harm through toxic properties of those toxic chemicals specified in subparagraph (a), which would be released as a result of the employment of such device.
- Any equipment specifically designed for use directly in connection with the employment of devices specified in subparagraph (b).
Almost 70 kinds of chemicals have been accumulated as Chemical Weapons which exist in the forms of liquid, gas or solid and even blister and directly or indirectly affects the biological system of our body. Chemical warfare agents are grouped as under:
- Nerve Agents,
- Hydrogen Cyanide,
- Tear Gases
- Toxins
According to the US Code, any person who violates the provisions as laid down in Section 229 of Title 18 is fined or imprisoned for any term of years, or both.
