In US, bank robbery is also commonly known as bank heist. The first ever reported incident of bank robbery in US dates back to the night of August 31, 1798 at the Bank of Pennsylvania at Carpenters' Hall.
The law relating to bank robbery has been incorporated in title 18, Part 1 of the US Code.
Any person who enters or attempts to enter any bank, credit union, or any savings and loan association, to commit in such place, any felony, in violation of any statute of the United States, shall be fined or imprisoned for a term that may extend to twenty years, or both.
Any person, who steals any property, or money, which does not exceed $1,000, belonging to, or in possession of any bank, shall face a fine or imprisonment for a term of one year, or both.
It can be mentioned here that the term savings and loan association means a federal savings association or state savings association as defined under the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
