The offence of assault against officers or employees happens when any person forcibly resists, opposes or intimidates, with anybody engaged in the performance of official duties. If it is a case of simple assault, the offender is fined or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both. In all other cases of assault, the offender may be fined or imprisoned for not more than 8 years, or both.
However, in an event of assault when the offender uses a deadly or dangerous weapon which may cause death, but fails to do so by reason of a defective component, may be fined or imprisoned for a term not more than 20 years, or both.
Similarly, if a person intimidates, threatens, or harasses a foreign official or guest or blocks such official in the performance of his duties, is fined or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.
Further, if a person knowingly circumcises any part of the labia majora or labia minora or clitoris of another below the age of 18 years, he will face a fine or imprisonment for a term not more than 5 years. However, a surgical operation necessary to the health of the person for such purposes and performed by a licensed medical practitioner does not fall under the purview of this provision.
