The basic legal statute that safeguards consumer rights is the Sale of Goods Act. It is a fundamental aspect of this law that goods must be of satisfactory quality". This means there should be no faults or defects in components, mechanism or design at the time of manufacture that might affect appearance, look or make the product out of order or hazardous.
The Sale of Good Act applies to contracts of sale of goods made on or after 1 January 1894. It can be mentioned here that a contract of sale of goods is a contract by which the seller transfers the property in goods to the buyer for a money consideration, which is termed as the price. A contract of sale may be between one part owner and another and it may be absolute or conditional.
