National Action Plan for Consumer Awareness and Redressal and Enforcement of Consumer Protection Act, 1986
Consumer Protection was identified as a thrust area in the decision taken in the 50th National Development Council (NDC) meeting held on 21.12.2002 and the Department of Consumer Affairs was assigned the work of developing a National Action Plan for Consumer Awareness and Redressal and Enforcement of Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
In exercise of the National Action Plan, the Department of Consumer Affairs has set various plans and programmes for the Consumer Awareness and Redressal and Enforcement of Consumer Protection Act, 1986, such as undertaking Consumer Awareness Programmes, strengthening Consumer Grievance Redressal Machinery, strengthening Infrastructure of National Commission, Holding Circuit Benches of National Commission, strengthening Consumer Forums, strengthening standards of Weights & Measures, providing additional Staff for Regional Reference Standard Laboratories set up by the Department, facilitating greater involvement of States and Union Territories with Consumer Welfare Fund and greater involvement of District Administration.
