Organizations like local authorities, private companies promote Private Bills. Private Bills are applicable only to specific individuals or organizations. If a particular group is affected, then they can jointly file a petition against it in the Parliament against the proposed Bill and thereby raise their objections to the committees of MPs and Lords.
Initiation of Private Bills
Private Bills can either be initiated in the House of Commons or in the House of Lords. However, the stages through which a Private Bill has to pass is the same as any other Public Bill.
Making the Bill public
The Parliament takes care to see that Private Bills are publicized through newspapers, advertisements, official gazettes of local areas and to all interested public in writing. People who are directly affected by a particular Private Bill should also be informed.
Petitions against Private Bills
People who are directly affected by the proposed Bill can raise their objections by writing a petition, which is considered and scrutinized by the Moa and Lords.
