Breakdown of Constituencies
At present, there are 529 constituencies in England, 59 in Scotland, 40 in Wales and 18 in Northern Ireland.
Boundary Commissions
The Constituency boundaries are taken care of by four separate but permanent Boundary Commissions, one each from England, Scotland, Wales and northern Ireland. The Commissions prepare reports on a regular basis recommending required changes owing to population or changes in local governmental boundaries. It is permanent to mention here that on completion of the current general review, the functions of the Boundary Commissions will be transferred to the Electoral Commission.
