The Labour Party, The Conservatives and the Liberal democrats are the three main political parties in the UK. At present, the Labour Party is in power. There are representatives of all these three political parties in the House of Commons as well as in the House of Lords.
Political Parties in the House of Commons ?
Apart from the three main parties, the Commons have a range of other political groups which are elected by the public. These include the nationalist organizations like Plaid Cymru of Wales, the Scottish National Party, various political parties of Northern Ireland and minority parties like Respect.
Political parties in the House of Lords
Apart from the main parties, there are also some members who do not belong to any of the main political parties. They belong to minority groups. Apart from these Members, there are limited number of members from the Church of England archbishops, bishops and also the Crossbench Peers’ group. In the Hoose of Lords, the Crossbench Peers group is at present the largest group. It is formed by independent Members who do not take a party whip.
